Ben Wallace in conflict over Headband

Last Saturday, Ben Wallace of the Chicago Bulls, got bench by coach Scott Skiles for wearing a headband in a game. Wallace started the game wearing a headband and Skiles prohibits his players from wearing headbands. Skiles pulled Wallace out of the game after just two minutes. Should Ben Wallace follow team rules or is Skiles over reacting for a something stupid as a headband?

Now, I have been watching the NBA for many years and I love watching some of the talent in the league but by no means am I an expert when it comes to the NBA. In my opinion, Ben Wallace should follow the rules the team has in place and play without a headband.

I see this as a simple rule, although ridiculous, set up by management to have some control over there employees. For example, I work for a company that has set dress codes for their employees. It is simple, business casual dress, no holes in clothes, and no advertising of drugs or alcohol. If my boss came up to me and felt I broke this rule and asked me to go change my clothes, I would have no problem. It is a rule set in place by management that all employees must follow. Wallace is an employee of the Chicago Bulls ($60 million over 4 years) and these rules were setup for all employees to follow. The same way as I am to follow the rules set up by my employers.

I feel that this is more about the relationship between Wallace and Skiles. In earlier incidences, Skiles has embarrassed Wallace at practice by stopping and asking him to tuck in his shirt, made in tape his ankles, which Wallace doesn’t like, and Skiles made Wallace listen to his music with headphones. To me it sounds like the two just don’t get along.
